Sign O' The Times最後の曲です。ほかにThe Hits/The B-sidesやGirl6のサントラにも入っています。The Hits/The B-sidesのバージョンは短く編集されています。ＣＤではGirl6が一番サウンドがはっきりしているように感じます。

大好きな曲　何度聞いても涙が出る美しい曲　バラードでは１番好きかもしれません。
訳すときに一人称と二人称の呼び方にたいへん迷いました。
私なりに考えて２通りに分けることにしました。読む人によって変えながら読んでください。

2005年にアメリカのR&BグループのSilkがカバーしています。なかなか忠実にカバーしていますが、やっぱりPrince .verの方が良く思ってしまいます。

今はエクササイズＤＶＤで有名なカルメン・エレクトラが、プリンスプロデュースでリリースしたアルバム「Electra」の中の「All That」という曲で「Adore」をサンプリングしています。伴奏はAdoreと同じです。歌詞内容はAdoreに似ていますが、全く違います。終始カルメンがささやきながら歌っています。Ｍａｙｔｅの歌い方に似ています。

Carmen Electraっていかにもプリンスがつけたような名前だなと思いますが、やはりそうです。当時の恋人だったようです。Mayteの著書にもプリンスが「Arabia(アラビア）」に名前を変えようと提案したそうですが、Mayteは絶対嫌！と断ったと書いてあります。Mayte強い！

It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night

もうカッコイイ！ライブ感がまたたまりません。　アルバムも良いですが、映画がすごくいいです。アルバムに比べると、映画のこの曲はとても速いピッチで演奏しています。
テーブルとイスのくだりのラップを歌うシーラＥのファッションがイイ！彼女以外誰も着こなせません。
ラップの間はプリンスがドラムをたたいています。キャットのパワフルなダンスも必見です。

さて、歌詞ですが、いくつか面白い言葉が出てきます。
「デトロイトクロール」　ダンスの名前です。この歌詞のあと、プリンスが四つん這いの逆になって足を蹴ります。説明難しい・・

「チキングリース」　プリンスがよく発するこの言葉　ギターのプレイテクニックのことを指します。「チキンピッキング」とも言います。なぜチキンがつくのかは諸説あるようですが、右手の動作が餌をついばむ鶏の頭の動きに似ているからなどのようです。
プリンスの「Sexy M.F.」などに使われるギターの細かい音です。Average White Bandの「Pick Up The Pieces」のカッコイイ冒頭のギターもそうです。
プリンス大リスペクトのD'Angeloが「Chicken Grease」 という曲を2000年に出しています。

The Cross
当初「The Cross」（十字架）と歌っていましたが、プリンスがエホバの証人に改宗してからは「The Christ」（キリスト）と変えて歌っていました。
エホバではイエスは十字架で処刑されたのではなく、スタウロス（死刑用杭）の上で処刑されたという教えがあるからだそうです。

1998年エッセンスアワードでプリンスはラリー・グラハムとシャカ・カーンとこの曲をパフォーマンスしていますが、「The Christ」として歌っています。
冒頭でプリンスが、
「Stauros　By definition, a wooden stake driven in the ground, used to cause torture or death. Stauros Perhaps someone lied about the way someone died」
「スタウロス（悲しみの杭）　定義では地面に打ち込まれた木製の杭は、拷問や死の用途で使用された。　スタウロス　おそらく誰かが誰かの死について嘘をついた」と言っています。

1998年のアメリカのトーク番組Vibeにプリンス、マイテ、シャカ・カーン、ラリー・グラハムと奥さんが出演したときこの曲について話しています。
「Originally, when I'd written the song, I must admit I was a little fearful to call it"The Christ" And my good friend Larry hipped me to some things, and it woke me up."
「最初この詩を書いたとき「キリスト」と歌うのがちょっと怖かったんだけど、僕の親友のラリーがいくつかのことを教えてくれて目が覚めたんだ」そのあと、その「いくつかのこと」に関してグラハムが熱く語っております。

改宗したプリンスは昔のセクシーな曲を歌うことをやめてしまったし、彼の人生をガラっと変えたんだなと思います。
